1. When is the first day of school?

2. When is my child’s open house?

Ice cream social for all incoming Grade 2 students on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
You are invited to meet your child’s teacher, visit your child’s classroom and enjoy a special treat!

Open Houses are scheduled for the following dates:
September 17, 2019 ~ Grades 4 & 5 6:00 pm-8:00 pm
September 18, 2019 ~ Grades 2 & 3 6:00 pm-8:00 pm
 
3. How do I get my child’s schedule?
 
Teachers will share information about specials at the beginning of the school year. Information will be added to websites and sent home in newsletters.
 
4. May I join my child for lunch?
 
Parents and grandparents are welcome to eat lunch with their children. Please call 673-1811 ext. 4 by 10:30 am on the day you will be dining at Heron Pond if you would like to be included in the lunch count. Adult meals are $4.00. Please sign in at the front office.
 
5. What are my school’s hours?

Students enter at 8:30 am and may choose to stop in the cafeteria to pick up a bagged breakfast. Students are tardy after 8:40 am. Walkers are dismissed at 3:00 pm and buses leave at 3:15 pm.
 
6. How do I communicate my child’s transportation arrangements? 
    What if I need to make a dismissal change?
 
At the beginning of the year, classroom teachers create permanent Walker/Bus Rider lists, a copy is kept in the office. If there is a change in the usual and customary plan, parents are asked to send in a note to their child’s teacher indicating the change of plans which is then shared with the office.
For unplanned changes, parents may call the main office no later than 2:00 pm.
At no time should you email or leave a voice message for a dismissal change to anyone at school.  
 
7. How do I find out what my child’s bus route and teacher assignment is if I haven’t gotten it already?
 
Bus routes will be posted to both the Milford School District and the Heron Pond Elementary School websites when we receive them from the bus company, usually one to two weeks prior to the start of school. Please go to www.milfordk12.org. Routes will also be published in the Cabinet.
 
8. How can I monitor and make payments to my child's lunch account?

Parents may send in checks or cash in sealed envelopes. Please include the child’s full name and the child’s teacher’s name. Payment is due weekly or monthly. Parents may also choose to mail payments directly to 80 Heron Pond Road.  Alternatively, parents can set up an account through EZSchoolPay.com which will allow them to add money to a child’s account and also monitor what the child is purchasing through the meal program.
 
9. What if I’m new to Milford, how and when can I register my child?

Registration is ongoing and offices are open daily. Parents can call Heron Pond directly at 673-1811. Parents may also go to the Heron Pond Elementary School website in advance to download registration paperwork. You will be asked to provide proof of residency, a copy of your child’s birth certificate, and immunization records.   There are two registration days in August for parents to register students as well. This year the registration dates are August 15th and August 20th from 7:00am to 7:00pm at the Milford High School cafeteria.  
 
10. How can I sign up to chaperone a field trip?

Classroom teachers are responsible for asking for and helping volunteers prepare for field trips. Volunteers acting as field trip chaperones will be required to complete the following in advance of a field trip: Volunteer Application, Emergency Contact Form and Policy sign off sheets.  Please know that chaperones who may spend unsupervised time with students will be required to have a background check completed by the SAU. Please see our school website for documents related to chaperoning field trips. Fingerprinting opportunities will be offered.
 
11. How do I update my home address, emergency contact information, etc.?
 
Please attend one of our district Data Registration events held on August 15, 2019 and August 20, 2019 from 7:00am-7:00pm in the Milford High School Cafeteria. Registration takes place at
Milford High School for all schools in the district making it easier for parents with children at multiple levels.
      • Office staff from each level is present to assist with filling out necessary forms and to answer any questions.
      • Nursing staff is available to talk with parents and complete medical forms.
      • The lunch program will also have a staff member available to discuss free and reduced lunch applications.
During the school year, you may contact the school office at 673-1811 to have student information updated.
 
12. What ways does Milford provide for mass communications? How can I update my preferences for receiving mass communications from Milford?

The Milford School District uses Blackboard, an automated system, to send out mass phone calls, emails, or flyers. Parents will be asked if they prefer email communications or hard copy paper copies. Please contact the school office if your contact information needs to be updated.
 
13. How do I check my school’s or the District Calendar?

Parents can locate the District Calendar and Heron Pond Calendar updates at www.milfordk12.org.
 
14. How do I notify the school if my child will be out sick/absent or tardy?

Parents can call 673-1811 and leave a message on the students’ absentee line. Parents can call anytime, even the day before if they know that their child will not be in school or tardy the next day.  One other option is to call the office during school hours, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
