Curriculum / Title 1 Coordinator

Heather Pelkey

My name is Heather Pelkey and I am excited to be the new Curriculum / Title 1 Coordinator at Heron Pond. This is my 24th year in education. I was a classroom teacher for 21 years, (in Winchester, NH) where I taught 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I loved every minute of being a classroom teacher and watching students build their knowledge.  I also mentored new teachers and student teachers from Keene State College. I taught Elementary Methods II: Math and Science at Keene State College as an adjunct professor for 6 years. These experiences led me to providing professional development to teachers and spending the last two years as a Math Coach/Specialist first in Winchester and last school year in Claremont.

I believe in being a lifelong learner and am always researching the current practices in education. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Keene State College in Elementary Education/Social Science with a specialization in History and Political Science. My Master of Education is from  Plymouth State University in Reading/Writing Specialist. I received my Doctorate of Education from American College of Education in Educational Leadership with a focus in STEM Leadership. My dissertation focused on the benefits of engineering design in the elementary science classroom. Some of the benefits I found were better engagement in learning, the ability to show background knowledge, and to put all students on an even playing field no matter what their learning abilities are. I look forward to sharing my vast knowledge of all the subject areas with the Milford teachers and students.

Outside of school I enjoy reading and spending time with my family. My husband and I are adjusting to the calm evenings without running around between our two daughters' sporting events now that our oldest is in college and our youngest is a senior in high school.

I am eager to get to know the Heron Pond community.
